An ENTITY Magazine writer shares the 3 ways that ENTITY has challenged her.

This summer I worked in the LA Art District at Entity Magazine. I loved being there with it’s chic open office, the other interns and, of course, the opportunity to write all day. What more could a girl ask for? Even so, no paradise is completely challenge free. This internship was no different. Here are three ways Entity challenged me.

1 I had to learn to write and to write fast

It is no secret that at Entity you’re expected to write and write fast. I remember when I was in high school and I had to write a 500 word paper with research I thought that was torture. Here, you do that before 10 am and keep doing that until 5 pm. Normally when I write an article I would take my time and slowly gather all the facts, maybe take a few breaks in between. Here, I was challenged to work faster and to also become better in the process. This was against my normal pace but I have come to like it because it means I get to learn more and do more in a much shorter period of time.

2 I had to learn the balancing act

Because of my specific situation and work schedule, I had to do both Entity and my current job along with maintaining a new marriage and swiftly becoming an adult with serious responsibilities. To say this was difficult would be an understatement. But because I had to balance it all, I was able to. Entity taught and showed me that I am capable of doing what I love and maintaining all my other responsibilities. It challenged me to do so because I had to find a balance otherwise I would have crashed beyond repair.

3 I had to test my limits

This goes hand in hand with the last point. I don’t think if anyone had ever told me “In the future, you’re going to be working at a magazine and have a job and be married and you will manage it all” that I would have believed them. But thanks to Entity, I really got to test my limits as a person. You can never grow if you are never tested on your abilities. I got to see that I could write more articles than I thought I could. I could work more than I ever though possible for myself. I could find time for my loved ones in between all the work. I feel like I have grown personally in this area. I now know what I am made of and I am grateful for that.

All in all, I learned so much and was challenged so much by this internship. I feel as though I have become a much stronger person for it and I will never let that go.
