If you’re one of the 75 percent of Americans who need glasses to see clearly, then you already know how difficult it is to find the “perfect pair.” Each pair has its own character – flirty, fashionable, elegant, glam, professional, bold – and each style comes at a different price. Four hundred dollars for some chic trending Prada glasses? Of course! After all, you’re either Prada or you’re nada.

Unfortunately for you, however, the hundreds of dollars you just spent on plastic frames may be behind what College Humor refers to as a “conspiracy theory.”

Eighty percent of glasses and sunglasses brands are controlled by one business: Luxottica. And while they charge different prices for each brand, seventy percent of the brands they own are created in the same factory! Additionally, as the video points out, because they control luxury and cheap brands, Luxottica can charge whatever they want for either (which is sometimes as much as 20 times the cost of production).

So ask yourself: Would you rather be Prada or nada now?
