Immigration activists unfurled a powerful sign reading “Refugees Welcome” from the observation deck of the Statue of Liberty on Tuesday.
The 20-foot by three-foot red and white banner hung near the statue’s base, and was placed not long after the Department of Homeland Security announced a new plan for enforcing immigration changes made by President Donald Trump.
Inspired by that act, Twitter started a hashtag pondering #RejectedStatueOfLibertySigns, such as “*Some restrictions may apply.”

Trump’s strong desire to block out immigration may be infuriating and depressing, but at least the #RejectedStatueOfLibertySigns Twitter trending hashtag can have you laughing through the pain for a little while.
