There were a lot of sleek and chic sexy gowns on the red carpet of Sunday night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, the first big fashion event of awards season. Amy Adams, Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman stood out, among others, for great simplicity and elegance.
But often, ladies who try a little too hard go one toe over the line and wind up on worst-dressed lists. These five did – but what’s really wrong with their looks? ENTITY’s fashion critic sizes up the situation.

Baby pink can be very flattering, but it’s so girly on the red carpet that most stylists know you can only wear it in very simple toned-down shapes to balance it out. However, Kaley Cuoco wore a very complicated look in baby pink.
We like the idea of a long top over pants – it’s nervy – but the combo of no straps, very long layers of ruffling and her cleavage looking smashed together makes her look like she’s about to hit the Vegas slot machines, not the red carpet.

Oh, where’s Beyoncé when you need her? Didn’t she wear this to the Met Ball one year? There seems to be a good reason why we’ve never heard of Steven Kahlil before. This half-naked dress – just one jiggle or wardrobe malfunction away from an X rating – reminds us of the Antonio Berardi half-naked dress Gwyneth Paltrow once wore and got clobbered by fashion critics for. Perhaps Bella Thorne didn’t get that email?

There’s a lot going on with this dress – too much, in fact. Ballgowns are supposed to be princess-like but this one’s partially Goth, sheer and over-exposing. There’s a lot of fabric happening here but it’s not covering anything. Everything about this look is misguided; it’s not sexy – it’s just silly. Unless you’re playing one of the wicked stepsisters in “Cinderella.”
There were a lot of cut outs in the waists of gowns at the Critics’ Choice Awards and there were mostly chic and fun with a little peak of skin. This is not a little peak. With all the beading all over this dress and an absolutely sheer back down to the butt it looks like Ariel is trying out to be a Vargas Girl from the turn of the century or working in the saloon of “Westworld.”

There’s nothing terrible about this dress – it’s perfectly fine. But is fine good enough for a beautiful actress who’s also the wife of Justin Timberlake? The colors don’t flatter her and her all-nude face, straggly hair and heavy bangs don’t work with the dress at all. She looks like she fell out of bed and didn’t bother and for very little impact.
