ENTITY reports on ENTITY academy summer

ENTITY Academy proved to be a challenging, interactive and ultimately rewarding experience that gave me the confidence to continue my career in media. Throughout my time at ENTITY I met some amazing women that helped me grow as a man in my professional and personal life. Here are some soft skills I learned at ENTITY Mag.

Communication

At ENTITY, I learned the value of maintaining effective communication with my superiors, co-workers and readers. Working on team projects helped me stay organized and coordinate tasks with my team members. Our project in social media packaging required us to fill out a calendar schedule and delegate specific tasks amongst ourselves. We worked as a team and took the responsibility of ENTITY’s Facebook content as an opportunity to prove our abilities as writers and digital storytellers.

Time Management

From the onset, we were tasked with a hard deadline for our articles every day. It proved extremely challenging to adjust my personal writing style to a key audience and maintain the integrity of the deadline. However, the pressure forced me to re-evaluate aspects of my writing and time management. I learned about the importance of being concise and focused on engaging readers rather than sounding like a textbook. ENTITY Academy cut out the fat in my writing as I got more practice and experience. Now I have the self-awareness and confidence in my writing that comes from countless hours of hard work and practice. My mentors helped guide me through the way and provided insightful advice and criticism to take my writing to the next level.

Networking

I was nervous and truthfully a little scared when I first walked into ENTITY Academy. It was my first major internship and I wanted to just…not fail. As soon as I got through the door, ENTITY quickly abated my fears. Every one of the mentors and mentees greeted me with enthusiasm and made me feel welcome. As the program continued, ENTITY built me into a valued member of the program. I came to know some amazing women who helped me succeed in the program and my future career aspirations. This experience connected me to people of different backgrounds, ages and personalities that helped me grow both as a writer and as a man.

Overall this experience helped me to grow in my professional skills, confidence and interpersonal relationships.
