Kyle Denman is a fashion designer and graduate from the Fashion Insititute of Design & Merchandising in Los Angeles, California.
Originally a political science major with professional experience in the nonprofit sector, he is a “political scientist with a passion for fashion.” His transition from youth mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio to 2017-2018 valedictorian at FIDM has been a story of passion.
Kyle Denman graduated with honors from Miami University in Oxford in 2016 with a Bachelor’s Degree in political science and government. He was fully immersed in school, and showed great potential in politics. This led to his professional experience in the nonprofit sector, and becoming youth mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio.
In 2016, Denman enrolled in Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, and immersed himself in fashion. Having no sewing and design experience inspired Denman to fully embrace the process. His passion is reflected in his school accolades. He achieved President’s Honor Roll status each quarter, graduated as valedictorian with honors. As a special achievement, Denman was chosen among ten other students to add value to the DEBUT program, a scholarship for advanced studies where he learned elevated sewing techniques and practiced avant-garde fashion.
Kyle Denman shares his honest experience in his recent collection titled “broken angel fallen from grace.” According to his Instagram, the show tells the story of an angel struggling to find their lost wings. He also claims the loss and reunion of the angel’s wings represent finding fashion. One may say that the show was baptized into the church of Balenciaga, the collection’s primary inspiration. Cristobal Balenciaga’s personal transformation with the church provided Denman the inspiration to tell his own extraordinary transition
Denman did not stop at graduation, he continues to achieve incredible things using both his nonprofit and fashion experience.
After college, Denman became a teaching assistant at his alma mater FIDM where he taught sewing and sewing techniques. He still teaches today as a Fashion Design instructor, however, he now serves at Freedom and Fashion. The perfect marriage between politics and fashion, Freedom and Fashion combines three programs in fashion, beauty, and style to encourage confidence and emotional expression in young women survivors.
Students of Freedom and Fashion have gone through extreme circumstances including homelessness, sex trafficking, sexual abuse, and other injustices. Denman opens himself up as an instructor and mentor to these women in order to teach transferable skills, and utilizing art as a vehicle for expression.
While Denman is not mentoring, he is, of course, making fashion! He continues to give back, and also makes time to focus on his design career. Since school Denman has taken home Project Runway’s Remake it Work Grand Prize for his excellent work in fashion.
He is now the FDC Young Designed Recipient in NYC. The prizewinning dress was champagne inspired with a gold bust and a bubble down made from 30 yards of organza. The dress is elegant and a bold take on the roaring ’20s. His avant-garde work has gained significant recognition in the fashion community and he continues to climb the ladder of success.
Kyle Denman is a powerful young fashion designer, and brings immense potential to the fashion community.
His nonprofit work in Freedom and Fashion is a testament to his brilliant ethics and aligned moral compass. He has earned incredible accolades since earning his expertise, yet stays humble and gives back. Kyle Denman is an excellent example of a passionate young designer conscious of fashion’s future.
